Michelle was born in Pembrokeshire but now lives and works in Shropshire.
Her paintings often begin with studies or drawings made on site, which then evolve in the studio — sometimes over months or even years. The process can be slow, layered, and reflective. Scraping back, overpainting, and sitting with the work until something emerges are all part of how a painting finds its form.
“The aim is to evoke atmosphere, memory, perhaps movement and the essence of the landscape — its subtleties, it’s quirks, and it’s transience. The area between abstraction and literalism is the place that I find most fascinating and continue to explore.”
